May regatta – success and international selections

A strong contingent of parents and paddlers made it up to the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham for the second big regatta of the year.

The strong wind made for challenging conditions, but that wasn’t going to stop our paddlers.

An impressive three paddlers gained promotion – not something that comes easily. Lewis Kirton’s few years of hard work have paid off and he was rewarded with promotion to Mens A – the fastest class in the country.

In the junior section, there was ample proof of the hard winter training paying out. Zoe Clark was promoted to Girls A and Abi Avery was promoted to Girls C.

Zoe even managed to set a new course record for under 18 girls K4, when she paired up with clubmate Renee Myburgh and two girls from other clubs.

Zoe and Renee have been rewarded with selection on the Great Britain squad for the Piestany regatta in Slovakia.

Also selected for international duties are senior paddlers Jess Walker and Jon Boyton, Matthew Bowley and Matthew Robinson. Best of luck to all of them in the series of World Cup races – the first of which is in Portugal this weekend.
