Our congratulations to Albert Woods, vice-chairman of the British Olympic Association, the British Canoe Union’s President and an honorary member of Royal Canoe Club, who has been awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in The Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Albert has been a dynamic force in British canoeing for decades, both as a slalom canoeing competitor and then as the GB team manager. He became a member of the BCU board in 1976 and has since been highly active in the administration of the sport. He was the Chief Official in canoeing at the Barcelona Olympic Games. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Canoe Federation and is also President of the European Canoe Association.
Reflecting on his award, Woods said: “I am flattered and extremely honoured, it is not often I am short of words, but to be award an OBE in The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Birthday list, has left me a little lost for some. It is not only a wonderful recognition for me but a fantastic honour for canoeing.”
