“Olympic canoe plot” two freed, no charges

Police have released two British Muslim converts they arrested following a boating trip on the river Lea. The pair, named by a friend as Jamal ud-Din and “Zakariya”, were told that no further action would be taken in the matter. There were fears as to what they were doing as the location where they were boating is a relatively short distance from the Olympic canoe slalom course at Lee Valley.

The two men were detained after arousing the suspicions of boat owners on the River Lea. A  friend of theirs, Minzanur Rahman, had insisted their boating trip was innocent, “just people trying to get into the Olympic spirit.”
