Dozens of Royal Canoe Club members have trekked over to Dorney for the canoe sprint races. The stands were packed and the crowds have lined the regatta course many deep right up to the 500m mark.
Everyone at Dorney has enthused about the atmosphere, the volume of support for canoeists and the great racing that’s taking place. As a venue, Lee Valley scored highly with canoe slalom competitors, the public and the media. But Dorney will also take some beating.
For canoeists used to racing at the windswept national watersports centre at Nottingham, it’s a calmer venue – though still not without some wind – and claims of lane advantage depending on which way it’s blowing.
