Rules

Current BCU Marathon Racing Rules will apply

(see 2017 Handbook or canoeracing.org.uk/marathon website)

BCU Membership and Race Check In: The race is a Regional Hasler event and so each paddler MUST be able to produce his/her current BCU membership card or a photocopy at race check in and if they cannot do so, then:

  1. a) a paddler who has not raced before and is racing in divisions 1 to 6 may purchase an event ticket. A paddler who has raced before and is ranked in divisions 1 to 6 will not be permitted to race.
  2. b) paddlers ranked in divisions 7, 8 and 9 may purchase an Event Ticket (but see below)
NB Only one event ticket can be purchased in any season.

Race results may be checked centrally for current membership. Where any paddler is found subsequently not to have had current membership or to have purchased more than one Event Ticket per season, their Hasler points will be deleted and the race will not count as a Hasler qualifying race.

The rules will apply similarly for juniors ranked in divisions 7, 8 and 9 who must prove their membership of the Youth Section of their club by means of their registered junior section card. Upon promotion to Division 6, full BCU membership is required.

Boat Numbers: Vertical number plates will be provided, £5 charge for lost numbers.

River Licence: You need to carry your BCU card with you.

Environment Agency: Instructions given by Environment Agency Officers must be followed.

Race Briefing: Attendance at the briefing is essential

Safety

All Division 7, 8, 9 paddlers and Lightning paddlers MUST wear a BCU approved buoyancy aid.

All U16 paddlers in Divisions 1 to 6 must wear buoyancy aids unless their team leader leaves a written note giving permission not to do so with the race organisers before the start.

Canoeing & Kayaking are Assumed Risk sports. Competitors take part in the racing at their own risk and must be aware of and accept the risks inherent in the sport. These risks are beyond the control of the race organiser and race officers. All boats must have sufficient buoyancy to remain afloat and support the crew in rough water, in the event of a capsize.

Entry Fees

Hasler: Seniors: £8.00 per seat; Juniors: £7.00 per seat. Late entries £2.00 extra per seat.

Additional fee for BCU event ticket is £5.00, payable by non-BCU members or those unable to prove their membership and who are racing in Division 7, 8 and 9, or those who have not raced before and are racing in Divisions 1 – 6. (See Rules section above)
