WEY JUNIOR REGATTA - Sunday 16th March.

Once again, we found ourselves in Guildford at Wey K.C, this time for the first junior regatta of the year. There were 2 time trials over 2 km and then paddlers were seeded to race head to head over 1000m and 500m. In total 72 paddlers from clubs across the region took part.

The weather was awful! It was cold, wet and windy and got worse as the day progressed. It was bad for us standing on the bank, watching, so it must have been ten times worse for all the paddlers!

Alex Foster was Royal's fastest paddler, finishing 9th overall, with a fastest time over 2 km of 9 mins 54 secs. Sarah Beer was next in 10 mins 19 secs and was the 5th fastest girl overall. Guy Standeven continued his good start to the year and finished in 11 mins 6 secs. Joe Finnis was next, achieving 11 mins 52 secs, closely followed by Rebecca Vorley in 11 mins 58 secs. Ben Finnis finished in 12 mins 2 secs and Grace Farrington wasn't far behind in 12 mins 11 secs. Emma Beer finished in 12 mins 28 secs and Gemma Ruff was just one second behind. They were also close in the head to head races with Emma winning the 1000m race by about a foot!

Nicole Williams achieved a time of 12 mins 58 secs and Ellie Woodger finished in 15 mins 18 secs. The Lightning time trials took place over 1000m and Daniel Vorley finished 2nd overall with a fastest time of 7 mins 24 secs. Daniel also won both the 1000m and the 500m head to head races.

Laura Ruff finished the time trial in 8 mins 8 secs.

Well done to everyone for taking part in such terrible conditions. We all travel to Shepperton on Good Friday for the Richmond Sprints - let's hope the conditions are a bit better.
